GUARDAMAR JUST NORTH OF TORREVIEJA

Forests, dunes and beaches in perfect harmony inside a big virgin field, make Guardamar del Segura to be a paradise in Costa Blanca. The town of Guardamar, with a population of just over 11,000, has historically played the role of guardian of the river Segura.

Around 12 km of beach; pines; very old trees; a Mediterranean park with fountains and lakes that give life to squirrels, swans, fishes…Guardamar’s strategic position on a hill over the Vega Baja made it the ideal settlement for the various peoples that inhabited this part of Spain.

Guardamar owes its very existence and livelihood to the River Segura. Activities around the restored mouth of the river include fishing, camel rides and the Molino de San Antonio. All the local restaurants offer top-quality prawns and outstanding rice dishes, the pride of Alicante cuisine.

The prime natural feature are the dunes formed from sand deposited by both the river Segura and the sea, and blown inland by the east winds. This natural area is today the main distinguishing feature of Guardamar and it includes the Reina Sofia and Alfonso XIII parks, ideal for a leisurely stroll or for cycling. These are attractive spots for noting the local vegetation and observing the water birds that come to nest in this ecosystem, including herons and other species.

If you like sports, Guardamar offers you every possible sea sport such as sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, underwater diving, canoeing, jet skiing, etc. The Marina de las Dunas at the mouth of the river offers all these as well as 498 moorings.

Guardamar del Segura has extensive sports facilities, the most important being the “Las Rabosas” Sports Centre and the magnificent Municipal Sports Centre, with its Olympic swimming-pool, 3 football pitches, basketball courts, five-a-side soccer pitches, tennis courts, pelota courts, covered sports. The municipal Marina de las Dunas is a splendid addition for tourism in Guardamar del Segura. It is located at the mouth of the river Segura, in a unique natural environment on the eastern coast of Spain.

It has 494 moorings and all the services and facilities of a top-ranking marina. It also offers 2 kilometres of the new navigable river course for small boats, a risk-free place for sea sports. This is the ideal place for starting out or for ending any day at sea. Because Guardamar is for living all year round.

TORREVIEJA MAP SHOWING SALT LAKE'S

In its prime location on the Costa Blanca, Torrevieja will be popular for decades to come and for more than the year round sun, sparkling sea and the incredible natural environment.

It’s a welcoming, friendly area that an active expat community has helped shape. There’s everything you’ll ever want for your annual escape or well earned retirement; good food, nightlife, world class golf, sailing and superb beaches.

It’s easy to reach from the UK too, so you can take off whenever you choose.

There are plenty of like-minded folk here; the large, active and welcoming expat community prove how attractive Torrevieja life really is.

Blessed with four blue flag beaches, you can enjoy the family friendly facilities at Playa de los Locos, or head for palm fringed seclusion at Playa Vivers.

Hundreds of ways to fill your day, here are just a few; watch pink flamingoes in their lagoons, halve your golf handicap, sail, swim or just indulge yourself.

Spanish markets are attractions in their own right and Torrevieja has one of the largest, most thriving, markets in Spain.

Getting back to nature, Torrevieja's two salt water lagoons offers brilliant bird watching, walking, cycling and horse riding opportunities.

Spectacular views of the coast can be found from Torre Del Moro, the 14th century tower on Cape Cervera. Built as a watchtower to warn of pirate attacks, it is now Torrevieja’s greatest symbol.

Torrevieja has four beautiful beaches where you can make the most of the 320 days of sunshine you’re guaranteed each year.

Cura Beach’s fine golden sand is decorated with palm trees for shade on hot sunny days and there are excellent restaurants and bars nearby.
